My baby's turning 4!...etc

Wow, so should I resurrect this blog, or what? It never really had a life to begin with...I just never really gave it a chance. But then I stumbled across it again while viewing a friend's blog. I keep telling people that blogging intimidates me because I will re-read my posts and hate them, and never think my writing is good enough. Oh well! There goes that. I guess I'll have to get over it.

So...it's been almost EXACTLY 2 years to the day since my first and only post until now. "Baby Bean" Milla is about to turn 4! And yes, I've already started planning healthy but yummy food to serve (chocolate almond torte for the cake, raw choconana 'pudding'), but there are far more exciting topics to cover right now. And I'm not talking about our 4 moves in the last 2 years, either. I'm talking about Baby Bean #2! (Gonna have to rethink those nick-names, heh.)

Lakota Shining Star--yes, that's her real name--is the newest addition to our family, born February 20, 2010! We had a beautiful intimate (yet packed) homebirth, and she has been a wonderful, easy, smiley baby so far. I'm really loving being a mom for the second time. She's such a doll! It's getting late though, so I'll have to post more later.

Baby Bean is Turning 2!

The little bean is turning 2 in just 2 weeks, and I am totally unprepared, as usual! I want to try to avoid all the usual commercial trappings of kids' birthday parties, but am pretty much clueless. I found a NatureMoms blog touting lots of great tips, but it wasn't particularly helpful for our situation. I do have a pretty good recipe for sugar-free carrot cake, which we used at her first birthday as well. I want to get some soy or beeswax candles (paraffin gives off toxic fumes). And I'm sending evites instead of paper invitations (who has time for that anyway?)...

Other than that, your guess is as good as mine! My whole family will be heading out to a cute little inn on the beach for the weekend, as Baby Bean's birthday is 3 days after my little bro's, 2 days after my little sister's, and the day after my parents' anniversary. We are also moving out of state very shortly. So, needless to say, it will be a momentous occasion for reasons other than the birthday of our little cuteness.

It will be very hot, so we need to be careful that no one gets overheated. And sunburn! I hope we don't have any issues there. I have a natural sunscreen somewhere, but we haven't used it much. I'm a big believer in the necessity of sufficient sun exposure for Vitamin D production. On the other hand, getting burnt isn't good either!
